FOUNDING AI ENGINEER

Build the AI that your future self wishes existed when you were figuring out how to level up as a person.

This isn't a companion chatbot. It's a game engine for becoming better at being human, and a training engine for intrinsically safe, aligned AI that preserves relational integrity by observing what helps humans flourish.

The engineering challenge here is genuinely hard. Should you choose to accept this quest, you'll be solving the core problem that blocks AI trust in any domain where the stakes run high.

What You’ll Build

Better Half's decision layer determines when users need pushback, softening, or repair.

But decisions mean nothing without execution. You'll build the system that translates those decisions into LLM behavior.

This includes:

Affect analysis pipeline for real-time emotion detection that feeds the decision layer
Memory systems for storage, retrieval and consistency checking
Prompt templates and constrained generation to translate decisions into LLM behavior
LLM integration and orchestration across Mistral and other models
Cloud infrastructure that makes sophisticated relational moves feel effortless
Evaluation and monitoring systems to ensure decisions land as intended

Your core challenge:

Turning complex relational intelligence into natural conversation.

What You'll Need

Skills required:

Production-grade Python with async and clean architecture
LLM integration including prompt engineering, constrained generation and orchestration
Transformer models and sentiment/emotion classifiers
Cloud infrastructure on AWS or GCP, PostgreSQL, vector stores
Eval and monitoring with harnesses, tracing, and feedback loops
Implementing technical specs from academic papers
Multimodal inputs
Self-starter comfortable with 0-1 startup chaos

Also valuable:

Utility theory and behavioral economics
Reinforcement learning
Game AI or dialogue systems experience
Rust

Compensation

Competitive contractor compensation and meaningful founding engineer equity.
